Masjid Athari Project
Alhamdulillaah was Salaatu was Salaamu alaa Rasoolillaah, wa ba’d:
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaah wa barakaatuhu,
We ask Allaah, the Most High, to keep us firm upon Imaan, and establish our feet firmly upon the Path of the Prophet (salallaahu alaihi wassallam) and his Companions.
As most of you are aware, al-Athariyyah have had on-going project that started well over eight years ago for the establishment of a Masjid and School in East London. Since a sum of money has been raised this project is an amaanah (a trust) and we intend to complete it with the aid of Allaah, the Most High. Most of you are also aware of the regular lessons and numerous conferences we have organised over the years wherein we have tried our utmost to spread this noble da’wah. Throughout these years we have regularly announced our intentions for a Masjid and School.
Over the past six months al-Athariyyah have looked at over twenty prospective properties to serve as a Masjid for East London.
East London’s Muslim population is in excess of one hundred thousand, in fact 40% of England’s Muslims live in London. Therefore the opportunities for da’wah are immense.
Over the last year, and especially the last six months, we saw the success achieved across the United Kingdom by various Salafi communities: Al-Baseerah in Bradford, al-Masjid as-Salafi in Birmingham, Markaz at-Tawheed in Wales, Daarus-Sunnah in Shepherd’s Bush and others. This gave us a “new lease of life” to push forward with the hope of igniting a renewed and final push to attain a suitable base for our da’wah and a gathering place of worship for our community.
We are pleased to announce therefore, our intentions to continue with what we had set out to do. Approximately £70,000 in funds are available towards a deposit. From the buildings we have viewed and costs we have factored, adding to that the advice from those who are experienced in real estate, we have estimated that a viable building that would cater for our needs would cost in the region of £900,ooo. We can offer exact figures once we have secured the site we are currently looking into, inashaa’Allaah. What we need now is support from the local and national (and international) communities.
Any suggestions and feedback are warmly welcomed and we wish to work very tightly with the local and national community with full transparency.
